William, diagnosed with autism and dyscalculia, started with Edublox online tutoring a year ago. He has made tremendous progress, from learning to count in ones to knowing the times tables up to 8 times. William has learned to add with carries, subtract with borrows, multiply two digits by two digits, do long division, and add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions with like and unlike denominators. He has learned to calculate fractions of whole numbers. Wiliam’s mom, Erin, tells his story:
Our son, William, was diagnosed with autism right before his 4th birthday. Although he attended kindergarten at our local public school, it soon became obvious that school wasn’t the best learning environment for him due to sensory overwhelm that led to frequent meltdowns. I started homeschooling him in first grade and he made progress in every subject area… except for math.
In the seven years that he has been homeschooled, we have tried every math curriculum on the market, from traditional textbooks to alternative methodologies to online games and programs. Nothing worked. At 12-years-old he was still learning basic addition and had just been diagnosed with dyscalculia and ADHD. I truly thought he would never understand numbers and I was afraid what that might mean for his future.
My never-ending search for one final glimmer of hope led me to Edublox, and I am so grateful to have found this incredible program. Within weeks of working with his tutors, he made more improvement than he had made in years of any other curriculum. Now that a year has passed, I am astounded by how much progress he has made, and I am so hopeful for the future.
William looks forward to his tutoring sessions, he actually enjoys talking about numbers and patterns in the real world, and most importantly, his confidence has soared. We are beyond grateful to the amazing team at Edublox and can’t imagine where we would be today without them.
